Potato, Red Washed
These Désirée reds have antioxidants, so best to keep the skin on. They have a nice light texture when baked and, though slightly waxy, are creamy enough to get away with mashing them too.
- Freshest in March to June, but instore all year round.
- Good for roasting, boiling, frying, baking.
- Store in fridge as they are washed. If you do store in the cupboard then find a cool, dry place where they won’t sprout, away from onions.
Did you know?
Potatoes might have moderate to high GI, but they are low enough in fodmaps (1/2 medium potato per serve), and lower kilojoule count (per 100g serve, peeled, boiled) compared to boiled white rice, boiled white pasta, white and wholemeal bread. Avoid them fried, and you'll have a satisfying snack!
