Beetroot
"Just beet it, beet it, beet it" is singing in our brains when we choose a nice, medium-sized beet with vibrant, glossy green leaves. They're antioxidant rich, and have iron, vitamins A, C and calcium. Some suggest beets improve memory, reduce blood pressure, and increase energy.
Beets adds a mild, earthy flavour and become quite sweet when cooked.
Beetroot are usually grown in cool mountain regions of Australia. Types include table beet, garden beet, red or golden beet.
- Freshest in autumn, summer, spring.
- Good for boiling, grilling, grating, juicing, roasting, salads and soups.
- Store in fridge in a perforated plastic bag in the vegetable crisper. Remove green leaves to reduce moisture loss.
